Driving to cheapest gas-worth it?

August 6, 2008 by Frank Girard · 1 Comment

In past posts, I’ve shared with you how you can find the gas station with the cheapest prices in your area– but is it really worth the drive? Enery Jeffreys, in writing about this topic at the Around Central Florida blog has a different perspective on all this- including info about “a slick site that helps determine if is worth the drive to save a few pennies.” The site is called Gas Edge of Saddle River, New Jersey, created by Mark Roth, an Internet Marketer.

Gas dip for drivers

July 17, 2008 by Frank Girard · Leave a Comment

Something happened today that I wondered if it would ever happen again…In case you missed this headline news item, oil fell below $130 per barrel today! That prompted a rally on Wall Street. In a related note, high prices seem to be driving demand down. U.S. drivers this month are driving 5% less than a year ago. So maybe the law of supply, demand, and prices really works– even when it comes to gas.

By the way, if you really want to follow gas price trends, let me recommend that you regularly check out our gas data center. We’ve put a great deal of work gathering sources of info and data to give you a comprehensive picture of gas price trends and related info. Our plans are to continually expand it. Visit our gas data center and you’ll find such information as:

* The cheapest gas price at your location!
* National price trends;
* Historical gas price trends; and,
* Gas pricing maps.

Beware-gas price lies

July 9, 2008 by Frank Girard · Leave a Comment

Consumers are being “ripped off” by undisclosed added charges when they buy by credit cars versus cash. The charge can be substantial. Not to justify in any way these undisclosed charges, but th charges are way in excess of what service station operators pay fee wise when they use credit card processing. This tactic by some gas stations has to be stopped! These extra charges must be fully disclosed with a prominents sign if gas stations choose to do this! And approaching the oil companies may have little impact because they own a very small percent of the gas stations in this country, a fact now known by many.

In the meantime if you trade plastic for gas, carefully watch what you get charged. Has this happened to you? Let us know and share your story as we continue to follow this story…

By Timothy Gardner
NEW YORK, July 8 (Reuters) - Texas energy tycoon T. Boone
Pickens on Tuesday called for a massive switch to natural gas
as a transportation fuel and a boost in wind power in a plan
aimed at reducing U.S. foreign oil dependence by a more than a
third.
The Pickens Plan, which includes exploiting domestic
natural gas supplies in new areas like East Texas and
Appalachia, could replace 38 percent of U.S. oil imports, he
said.
“U.S. natural gas can replace foreign oil. It’s the only
natural resource we have that can do that,” Pickens said during
a press event for his energy plan.
The 10-year plan would reduce the annual U.S. oil import
bill of $700 billion, at oil prices of $140 a barrel, by
hundreds of billions of dollars, he said. The country imports
about 70 percent of its crude.

Service lets drivers lock in gasoline prices
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The high price of gasoline has some U.S. drivers looking to the future.
A recently introduced service called MyGallons.com allows drivers to fill up their tanks sometime in the future but at current prices, using a debit-like card which banks gallons rather than dollars.
“The price of gasoline was changing all the time. It seemed unpredictable,” Steven Verona, founder and owner of the Miami-based company, said on Monday.
“It seemed there had to be a way to fix the price,” he said.
Working on the assumption that the price of gasoline will continue to rise, Verona started about two and a half years ago to put together the company which gives the driver some measure of control of what he pays for gasoline.

Cheap gas, computer glitch

July 1, 2008 by Frank Girard · Leave a Comment

I wish I lived in Cincinnatti right now! Why? Well it seems a Cincinnatti service station started selling gas for $1.40 a gallon instead of $4.10 a gallon (amazing what a few misplaced numbers can do!)

CINCINNATI – A computer error caused a Cincinnati area service station to sell gas for $1.40 instead of $4.10, leading to a major traffic jam.

I’m told the scene was mass chaos at the station located in suburban Sycamore Township. The chaos was short lived however– the good news for drivers only lasted about three hours! But what a cheap gas feast it was!

I wonder how many other computer screw ups around the country have put smiles on the faces of drivers during this sky high gas price period…

Gas demand down

June 22, 2008 by Frank Girard · Leave a Comment

Demand for gasoline is down–In large part because gasoline prices are over $4 a gallon. This drop in demand is the first time in 17 years. China is raising prices for gasoline and diesel — a move that might ultimately lower demand. And, on Sunday, there were signs supply might increase as Saudi Arabia’s oil minister indicated that the country would increase production through the end of the year if needed. On Friday, the energy markets were digesting news of an attack on a Royal Dutch Shell oil platform in Nigeria that shut down over 200,000 barrels of oil per day in production. According to the EIA, in the first quarter of the year, demand for gasoline fell about 100,000 barrels per day, or about 1.3 percent of daily consumption.
